Welcome TO YEAR ONE

This year, Silver Birch is being taught by Miss Loynes and supported by Miss Monaghan. 

 

 

 

Useful Information

Year one will have PE twice a week. Please make sure they have the school PE kit uniform in school so they can change. 

Homework Expectations

Handwriting

Each week your child will be sent home with some handwriting. Please complete the activity sheet in pencil and encourage your child to write their own name on it. 

Reading

Please continue to encourage your child to read each night, as this will really support their development in every aspect of the school curriculum. 10 mins a night is perfect. Please sign their reading record when someone has listened to your child read. Your child will have a reading day. This is the day that their books will be changed each week.  Sharing a book with your child and discussing what is happening is also really useful and fun.

Phonics

We have also sent home words for them to practise daily which will help revise their phonics knowledge and reading. We will send home sounds and words for your child to practice reading with you. Please remember to sign the yellow reading record after you finish reading with your child each time. 

Maths

Children have individual log-ins (stuck in the back of the reading records) for numbots- please use this to support your child's maths learning.

Show and Tell

Each half-term your child will be sent home with an activity to do at home. Once they have completed the activity, bring it in to share with the class. It may be helpful to go over what your child wants to say at home so that they can feel more confident when speaking in front of the class.
